Stay In Position
“ Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Remain. Rest. Abide. Dwell. Or in other words, stay.
At the beginning of this year I wrote a post called, Welcome to the Leap Year. If you are unfamiliar with the post, you can find it here; [Click Here]. In this post the Lord gave me insight on what was to come in 2024. One of the instructions He gave was, “stay in position”. God was warning us that regardless of how stagnant, unchanging, or discouraging our lives seemed; to stay in the places, spaces, and positions He had planted us in.
Most of us are natural fixers and problem solvers. As a result, when faced with an obstacle it is human nature to fight, flight, or fix. However, as Christians we know that the promises of God do not come to pass by our might, power, or efforts. Rather, as Zechariah 4:6 states, it is by the Spirit of the Lord.
Yours Truly, 2024.
The Bible details the story of a man named Abraham. Abraham and his wife, Sarah (who had no children) received a promise from the Lord that they would conceive a child in their old age. Full of faith, Abraham believed God immediately and began the journey of waiting for the promise to be fulfilled. However, what he did not anticipate was that the promise would take 25 years to come to fruition.
In a frustrated attempt to appease his wife Abraham agreed to sleep with his wife’s maid, Hagar hoping to start a family. As a result, Hagar conceived a son, Ishmael. Perhaps, this would have been the end of the story, except for the fact that this child was not the child God had promised. God had specifically told Abraham that he and his wife would have a child.
Like many of us, when Abraham was faced with opposition, and a lack of tangible progress, he moved out of position. He and his wife decided to take matters into their own hands and created a counterfeit version of God’s promise. Thankfully, because of the merciful nature of God, Abraham’s actions did not forfeit the promised son, Isaac (although it did complicate things greatly, read Genesis 16).
Friend, as we near the end of this year allow me to encourage you to hold on. What you have been hoping and praying for may have not yet materialized, but what God said still stands. Stay in position. Resist the urge to respond to your circumstances in your own strength. Avoid creating your own solutions, and instead look to God for the strength to continue, to persist, to stay.
Although things may not look promising at the moment, stay the course. It’s not too late. You have not missed your moment and more importantly, God does not need your assistance to bring His promises to pass. God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we can think, ask, or imagine (Ephesians 3:20) Trust Him.
Yours Truly. 2024.
