Rebuild Stronger
When the Future Seems Scary
“ My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.””
For every “what if?” For every “maybe”. For every concern, fear, worry, or doubt about the near or distant future, this scripture stands true.
With that in mind, think back to every chapter of your life so far. Consider all you’ve endured and survived. By the grace of God, you have overcome it all. Guess what? You’ll overcome again.
If life has been hard, or this season especially difficult, I’d like to invite you to a new perspective: the obstacles and circumstances that felt as though they’d break you were actually meant to strengthen your resolve and tenacity.
I’m no fitness guru, not by a long shot, but here’s what I do know: in the process of strength training, the muscles in a person’s body tear and rip. With every workout session, the muscles are torn apart (hence, the post workout pain), and in the days afterwards, those muscles work to heal themselves and to rebuild what was destroyed.
Here’s the amazing thing, though: those muscles don’t simply repair themselves; they rebuild stronger! Alright, maybe you don’t get it. Let’s try another analogy.
Back in August, I visited a very popular beach here in New York for the very first time. I was amazed by how beautiful the seascape and boardwalk were. As we trailed along, my sister pointed out a wooden configuration that seemed like some sort of blockade, and I suddenly realized just how high off the ground the boardwalk actually was.
I listened intently as she explained that these attributes were added to this beach post hurricane Sandy, a hurricane that essentially destroyed the New York and New Jersey coastline a few years back. The architects and builders who were given the task to restore the shoreline seemed to have a single thought in mind: rebuild stronger.
Friend, God has the same thought in mind concerning you.
Every torn muscle, every gust of wind and crashing wave, though painful and terrifying, has been given an assignment: destroy. Yet God stands sovereign over it all with a new and better declaration: “ I will use this to make My child stronger”.
So when you think you’re at you’re wits' end, or when the possibilities of the future seem like a dark, looming cloud, remember you are stronger than you were the last go around.
And if you’re afraid that your strength may fail, be encouraged that it was never your strength that carried you in the first place. God’s Word was, is, and always will be true. He is the strength of your heart. He is your portion forevermore.
So let the waves come, you were built for this.
I love you, friend.
Remember, Jesus loves you infinitely more.
